    President Resigns – Bangla Online News Portal

    Md. Shahabuddin has resigned from the post of President. On Friday (July 24) afternoon, he submitted his resignation letter to the National Parliament Secretariat.

    Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed will hold a press conference at 5 PM regarding the President’s resignation. It is understood that he will elaborate on the constitutional procedures following the resignation.

    According to the Constitution, if the office of the President becomes vacant, the Speaker of the National Parliament shall serve as the Acting President until a new President is elected. Accordingly, Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed will assume the duties of the President.

    Furthermore, as per constitutional provisions, the National Parliament must elect a new President within 90 days of the presidential office becoming vacant.

    The demand for President Md. Shahabuddin’s resignation had intensified in various political circles since the political change of August 5, 2024. During the inaugural address of the President at the recently held first session of the Thirteenth National Parliament, opposition MPs also protested against him.
